British Airways, Sprite and more: best new creative ads
Every week, I attempt to share a curated list of best new creative ads. It’s a small tribute to brand teams everywhere trying to create clutter-breaking creative ads. This week: ads from British Airways, Sprite, Flipkart and more.
British Airways: An Original British Briefing
The airline safety video could become a genre by itself in advertising. Many airline brands have done some great work to solve a real problem: both frequent and occasional flyers tend to ignore the safety video for different reasons. A new video from British Airways cleverly positions the travel itself as an antidote to life’s stress-inducing factors like the annoying boss, mobile screen addiction and so on. The copywriting is top notch and the wry delivery adds to the droll humour (‘we will soon be escaping Wit’s End, doom scrolling and I hate my boss’). I particularly loved the stowaway visual where the whining boss is packed off. Another great campaign from the agency.

Plenty: A Kitchen Situationship
I loved this ad for two reasons: the use of a jingle and the lovely tag line. Watching the film and listening to the lyrics one wonders why more brands in India don’t take the effort to create bespoke jingles anymore but resort to the lazy option of using a Bollywood track. The lyrics are fun, light-hearted and convey the emotions of those who have to deal with others (often their partners) who leave the kitchen messy. Both jingle and the tag line weave in the brand name in a memorable way. Top notch work – especially considering that its for a regular FMCG brand and ‘boring’ category where there isn’t nothing much in terms of product differentiation.

O2: Now in space
Another piece of work from O2 with a strong visual identity that links back to the logo.
Agency: VCCP
Flipkart: small town fun
Ads depicting small-town India can get stereotypical. Some suffer from the affliction of city slickers ‘imagining’ life in small towns: ‘this is how life there must be’. Couple of new films from Flipkart promoting every-day, small ticket household items, have none of that. They are fun, feel authentic portraying consumers in small town India also those who seek and buy fashionable everyday stuff.
Agency: Leo India
ZIJkant: Equal Pay Day
A Belgian NGO has been organising Equal Pay Day on March 12 every year to highlight the gap in pay: women earn 20% less. A new film brings in a wonderful new twist and a refreshing perspective: prison is the only place where there is no gender pay gap. Hence women get into trouble deliberately so that they can end up in prison.
Agency: mortierbrigade
InstaHelp: installations
‘Get house help in 10 minutes‘ is the promise of InstaHelp a gig-worker utility service. A clever outdoor installation drives home the point cleverly.

Agency: Manja
Sprite: brand identity refresh
Fresh, bold, striking: some new brand identity work for Sprite which showcases the importance of visual impact and pithy tag lines, especially in the category.
